This summer, a few of our thespian teen volunteers will be putting on a murder mystery for us at the library. We're going to have several 'crime scenes' throughout the library, and each teen will have their own crime scene for their character. Patrons will walk around the library and visit each crime scene and talk to the teen actors to try to figure out the murderer. Should be fun!

P.S. I also love the idea of using scenarios to train the teens and prepare them for summer reading. I might have to use that idea in the future! ;)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3124163029230555324.post-87695279084572645042012-05-31T18:45:05.830-05:002012-05-31T18:45:05.830-05:00Teen volunteers are awesome! We are currently in the middle of training new staff members at our branch about SRP (although we are calling it the Summer Reading Challenge this year, which I have mixed feelings about). I actually first started working for the library two years ago on the first week of SRP. In fact, I was training in children's the morning registration opened, which was like being thrown into the deep end of the pool! The important thing to remember is that SRP may seem overwhelming, but that it is also rewarding to see people get excited about reading. I love the idea of using scenarios to get acclimated to the SRP processes. Sounds like you did a great job getting everyone on track, Amy!

By the way, I'm jealous that you have an adult program this year. Our library director decided to do away with the adult program this year to re-focus on childrens and teens. This has caused a big stir in the system, as the decision was based on the dwindling adult circ at the Main Branch, overlooking just how popular the adult program is at the branches (especially the "minis," our two small rural branches, who use adult SRP as a way for patrons to show their support through numbers; the second-smallest branch in the system had the highest adult SRP numbers last year!). It will be interesting to see what happens to circ system-wide this summer...Bethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10600936401721897615noreply@blogger.com
