I'm in the same boat as far as occasional special-character evening programs--we've had a ton of families show up on the evenings we've had Max from Max and Ruby, and also Curious George. I think, as long we don't offer them too frequently, especially during the school year, they can be an exception to the no-evening rule for us.Amyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02822088574795909869noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3124163029230555324.post-40941523823418106252013-04-07T16:52:24.420-05:002013-04-07T16:52:24.420-05:00This is a great idea Amy! We're going to do so...This is a great idea Amy! We're going to do something similar this summer. I'm trying two new storytime times-one for beginning readers at 4pm on Tuesday afternoons (we tend to get a pretty good after school crowd and I think summer will be a great time to tap into that age group) and a monthly stay and play storytime, which will be similar to your Milk & Cookies storytime, only for ages birth-3. I'm replacing our current weekly baby storytime with this once a month event because our turnout is so varied and I can't really give up a toddler and preschool storytime spot during the summer as our storytimes are very full during those months!

I've tried doing evening storytimes for the same reasons-I want to make sure we have something for everyone, but our attendance is always very low. I've tried calling it storytime, pajama time storytime and giving it a bedtime theme, but nothing seems to really draw a crowd. What I've found that works well for us is when we theme an evening storytime around a popular series/character. The Pete the Cat storytime I did in December was huge and it was on a Friday night at 7, same time as my PJ storytimes. So for summer, I'm trying that idea again and we'll be doing a pirate themed storytime, dinosaur storytime (with Danny and the Dinosaur and Dinosaur Versus) and a Stuffed Animal Sleepover storytime-our third annual stuffed animal storytime. I'm hoping this works better than offering a general storytime in the evenings.GreenBeanTeenQueenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08708155058381407531noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3124163029230555324.post-91479563147269169082013-04-03T08:00:28.262-05:002013-04-03T08:00:28.262-05:00Just trying my best to keep things fresh, interest...Just trying my best to keep things fresh, interesting, and relevant for our library families! We don't have a separate space so Storytime happens in the middle of our Youth Area - after I move the furniture. This sounds like a great solution to meeting "working" parents needs. It almost makes me wish I worked every Sat., so I could do this at that time-almost, but not quite!GrandmaGippyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13520223478342868062noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3124163029230555324.post-49975497821406316112013-04-02T11:21:28.464-05:002013-04-02T11:21:28.464-05:00I love it! I love that you didn't stick to just a traditional storytime for this group and included an app. You're reaching an audience that wouldn't typically get to experience storytime and exposing them to new things.
