While, to my knowledge, we did not experience any, they were prepared with paint and marker removal supplies in the event they needed to cover up or remove anything.Amyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02822088574795909869noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3124163029230555324.post-62951109178803201732017-03-10T13:16:38.881-06:002017-03-10T13:16:38.881-06:00Our library installed a very successful StoryWalk ...Our library installed a very successful StoryWalk in a local park last summer - changing stories every week! We've done a garden Picture Walk for the last few years as a kick-off for our Summer Reading Program and are looking for another book for this summer. Thanks! I also love your permanent stands, and would love to try and talk our Board into something like this! Just wondering what other books you've used for your Picture Book Walk? We're trying to find something that works with the "Build a Better World" theme that would be appropriate for families in this kind of situation- not too wordy, etc.. The library foundation donated $400 to cover the cost of plexiglas and weather stripping to keep the pages dry. The only other costs were three copies of the chosen book, plus my time to take the book apart and laminate the pages.Amyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02822088574795909869noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3124163029230555324.post-75929943377441675192016-11-09T10:21:35.754-06:002016-11-09T10:21:35.754-06:00We are looking at adding a book walk to a local pa...We are looking at adding a book walk to a local park, and I want to thank you for the information I have already gathered from your blog. I'd consider choosing a book that is simple/doesn't need to be read aloud to be understood (to accommodate for low levels of education). I'd also consider making sure that the book reflects the neighborhood culture--black characters if it's a predominantly black area, Latino characters and culture if it's predominantly Hispanic, etc. I would strive to make the book extremely appealing to community members since a busy, low-income, low-education community might not be inclined to seek out a literacy experience just by virtue of it being about reading. If it reflects their experience, though, that's another story. Perhaps choose a book that is very popular in your library/schools?Amyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02822088574795909869noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3124163029230555324.post-9304615784235825262013-08-12T12:34:27.019-05:002013-08-12T12:34:27.019-05:00Hi Amy, I absolutely love this idea. I serve many families with low incomes and low levels of education, and I'd love to do something like this. Do you have any recommendations for how to launch a Picture Book Walk in such a setting?mlandrumhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07988791830879826602noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3124163029230555324.post-71284343216442011872013-06-29T23:20:37.777-05:002013-06-29T23:20:37.777-05:00Shelly, we have one or two signs that are in direc...Shelly, we have one or two signs that are in direct sunlight, and I'm starting to be able to tell that the colors in the images are fading.
